Dr Wainwright’s areas of expertise are in contemporary art and photography. As a writer and academic she has published extensively in the contemporary arts field. She had curated a number of international exhibitions both in the UK and in Europe.
Wainwright’s practice as an art critic most prominently features interviews with international artists, photographers, filmmakers and curators. Her entire unedited Audio Arts archive dating from 1996 was acquired in 2006 by the Tate Gallery. Her interviews take place in both the UK and internationally, at artists studios or in galleries, museums and alternative spaces. To date she has conducted over one thousand interviews and this continues to grow.
Jean Wainwright is based in London. She is a Professor at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) where she is Director of the Fine Art & Photography Research Centre
